ETS (Electron transport system or chain) is a series of
coenzymes that takes part in the passage of electrons from
a chemical to its ultimate acceptor. ETS is present in the
inner mitochondrial membrane, oxidation of one molecule of NADH gives rise to 3 molecules of ATP, while that of one molecule of FADH2 produces 2 molecules of ATP. In respiration, energy of oxidation-reduction is utilized for the production of proton gradient.
