Epidermis is the outermost cellular layer of plane body. Generally it consists of single layer of epidermal cells. But in case of some xerophytes like Nerium, multiple epidermis made up of many layers, thick epidermal cells are present. This helps in reducing the rate of transpiration and provide protection.
