Hormones are specifically acting as organic compounds, secreted by endocrine glands directly into the blood stream from where these are transported to the target organ. There can induce or inhibit various biochemical processes and are not available again after the process is over. There are four main classes of hormones, i.e. protein and polypeptide hormones, steroid hormones, monoamines and lipid based hormones.
