Anterior pituitary (adenohypophysis) comprises about 75% part of pituitary gland. This lobe of pituitary gland secretes following hormones.
(i) Somatotropic hormone (STH or GH)
(ii) Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
(iii) Adenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) (iv) Prolactin hormone (LTH)
(v) Gonadotropic hormone (FSH and LH). ADH or antidiuretic hormone is secreted from the posterior lobe of pituitary. This hormone increases the reabsorption of water in nephrons of kidney and stimulates the involuntary muscles in the wall of intestine, gall bladder, urinary bladder and blood vessels.
