Genetic code is a set of instructions which help cells to obtain the information in making proteins from the DNA. The work of Khorana and Nirenberg helped decipher the genetic code which is followed by all organisms in protein synthesis. The codes are always in a triplet (codon) form that sequence of three N-bases. More than one codon can represent an amino-acids, hence the codes are considered to be degenerate. Although, each code is specific to only one amino acid and they are non-ambiguous. These triplets are non-overlapping and without any punctuations. The genetic code is universal and same for all variants of organisms from bacteria to whale. The start codon is AUG and stop or terminator codons are UAA, UGA, and UAG.
