Opium is an opioid drug and it is obtained from white poppy plant, Papaver somniferum. It affects the human body by providing relief against pain, as it is the most effective pain killers.
Morphine is another opioid drug. Morphine is obtained from the latex of poppy plant. It is a sedative and pain-killer, used to reduce pain after surgery. These are the drugs which bind to opioids receptors in the central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. The effects of drugs on human body are:
1. The immediate effects of drug are manifested as reckless behaviour, vandalism and violence.
2. Excess does can lead to coma and death due to cerebral haemorrhage, respiratory and heart failure.
