Solution:

A negative feedback mechanism is a type of feedback mechanism which is used to maintain homoeostasis. In this mechanism when a particular substance increases in the body, a feedback is given to the brain which in turn starts a process to reduce the production of that particular substance. In the given example here the temperature increases and to prevent further damage due to increase in the temperature, the thermostat shuts off thereby leading to decrease in temperature.
