Syphilis is highly infectious veneral bacterial disease caused by (spirochaete Treponema pallidum) with incubation period of weeks. It is transmitted through sexual contact and from mother to children. It causes paralysis, brain damage, blindness, heart trouble and aortic impairment. The disease is diagnosed by clinical symptoms, microscopic examination and antibody detection. The disease is curable through appropriate antibiotics, eg, penicillin, tetracycline.
