Solution:
The bakane or foolish seedling was first reported by farmers in rice plants. It was found to be caused due to the plant infection with the fungi Gibberella fujikuroi. Kurosawa reported the appearance of symptoms of the diseases in uninfected rice seedlings when they were treated with sterile filtrates of the fungus. This active substance was later identified as gibberellic acid.
