Cannizzaro reaction is given by aldehydes which do not contain an alpha hydrogen atom.
In this reaction, a molecule of carbonyl compound is oxidized to carboxylic acid and another molecule is reduced to an alcohol.
Acetaldehyde does not give Cannizaro's reaction as it contains an alpha hydrogen atom.
Instead, it undergoes the aldol condensation reaction.
