The haploid DNA content in an individual is described as its C-value. C-value paradox is huge variations in C-values between species, where apparent complexity doesn’t vary correspondingly. Substantial variations in the nuclear DNA content exists even between closely related species and cannot be easily explained, e.g. Mammals contain 1 -5pg DNA per haploid genome, but in salamander it is 100 pg.
