Anode mud: Impurities collected at the anode in electrolysis during purification of metals.
During the electrorefining process, pure zinc gets deposited at the cathode and an equivalent amount of metal dissolves from the anode into the electrolyte in the form of metal ions. Also, impurities settle down below the anode in the form of anode mud. Example: Electrorefining of Cu
At cathode: Cu2++2e−→Cu
At anode: Cu→Cu2++2e−
