Water reabsorption in DCT of nephron is mediated by ADH (secreted from posterior pituitary). It is called facultative water reabsorption. Absence of ADH reduces the reabsorption of water in DCT causing dilute and increased urine, a pathological condition known as diabetes insipidus.
