When the lenses are in contact, the power of the system is P=P1+P2
or P1+P2=10...(i)
When lenses are separated by a distance d=0.25m=41m
The power is P=P1+P2−dP1P2 ⇒P1+P2−4P1P2=6...(ii)
On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get 10−4P1P2=6 ⇒P1P2=16
So, P1=8D and P2=2D ∴f1=81m=0.125m ⇒f2=21m=0.5m
