Q.
The uncertainties in the velocities of two particles, A and B are 0.05 and 0.02ms−1, respectively. The mass of B is five times to that of the mass of A. What is the ratio of uncertainties (ΔxBΔxA) in their positions?
According to Heisenberg Δx×mΔv−4πh
For particle A Δx=ΔxA m=m Δv=0.05
So, ΔxA×m×0.05=4πh ... (i)
For particle B Δx=ΔxB m=5m Δv=0.02
So, ΔxB×5m×0.02=4πh ... (ii)
Eq. (i)/(ii), we get ΔxBΔxA=2.
