: Russian biochemist A. I. Oparin has proposed that conditions on the primeval earth billions of years ago were definitely different from present conditions and the first form of life, or self duplicating particles, did arise spontaneously from chemical inanimate or abiotic substances. Experimental support of Oparins hypothesis was given by Miller and Urey. Miller experimentally demonstrated the formation of aminoacids in the laboratory under primitive conditions by using a mixture of H3,CH4,NH3 and steam.
