Ovaries are the primary sex organs that female gamete (ovum) and steroid hormones, like estrogen and progesterone. Ovaries are located on each side of the lower abdomen. Each ovary is about 2 to 4 cm in length and 2 to 3 cm wide is connected to the pelvic wall and uterus by ovarian ligaments. The ligament of uterus attaches to ovary by peritoneum called the mesovarium. Each ovary is covered by a thin germinal epithelium made up of cuboidal cells which encloses the ovarian stroma is divide into two zones – a peripheral cortex and an inner medulla.
