Solution:

Two solutions having same osmotic pressure or osmotic concentrations are called isotonic solutions. Such solutions shall show no osmosis when kept separated by a semipermeable membrane.
A solution having higher osmotic concentration is called hypertonic with respect to the other. A solution having lower osmotic pressure (or concentration) relative to some other solutions is called hypotonic.
- If two solutions with different concentrations are kept separated by a semipermeable membrane, there is a movement of solvent molecule from hypotonic to hypertonic solution.
