Lymphatic filariasis which is also commonly known as elephantiasis is a rare condition that occurs when the parasite is transmitted to humans through mosquitoes. It causes swelling and enlargement of legs, sex organs, arms, and breasts. This disease is caused by three types of roundworms classified as nematodes-Wuchereria bancrofti-causes 90% of cases, Brugia malayi and Brugia timori cause remainder cases.
