The inner ear is fluid-filled and divisible mainly into 2 parts:
Bony labyrinth: It is a series of bony channels inside which the membranous labyrinth lies. It is filled with perilymph.
Membranous labyrinth: It is filled with a fluid called endolymph.
- Membranous labyrinth = Cochlea + Vestibular Apparatus
- The cochlea is meant for hearing and while the vestibular apparatus (Saccule and Utricle for static balance and 3 semicircular canals for dynamic balance) are meant for body balancing.
