The purpose of dividing the cell two times during meiosis is to produce haploid cells. Metaphase II of meiosis and metaphase of mitosis are similar to each other except in the number of chromosomes.
In meiosis-I, during anaphase I stage, homologous chromosomes are divided into two daughter cells. There is only one set of chromosome in each daughter cell after meiosis I. These daughter cells enter into meiosis II has an only half number of chromosomes (haploid set).
