The ovule of the ovary is attached to the placenta by a slender stalk called funicle. The point of attachment of body of ovule to the funicle is known as hilum. In an inverted ovule, the funicle extends beyond the hilum alongside the ovule forming a sort of ridge. This extended part is called raphe.
