Being part of the retina, bipolar cells exist between photoreceptors and ganglion cells. They act, directly or indirectly, to transmit signals from the photoreceptors to the ganglion cells. A radial section of the retina reveals the ganglion cells (the output neurons of the retina) lie innermost in the retina closest to the lens, and the photosensors (the rods and cones) lie outermost.
The cornea is the transparent part of the eye that covers the front portion of the eye.
