During mitosis, the chromosomes condense and nuclear membrane disappears at prophase. They are attached to spindle fibers and are brought to the equator at metaphase. Centromeres divide and one chromatid of each chromosome is pulled to opposite sides of the cell at anaphase. Chromosomes reach the poles, they decondense and form nuclear membrane at telophase.
