Q.
The equivalent resistance of two resistors connected in series is 6Ω and their parallel equivalent resistance is 34Ω. What are the values of resistances ?
Let the value of resistance be R1 and R2 respectively.
When R1 and R2 resistances are in series
So, R1+R2=6Ω…(i)
(According to the question)
When R1 and R2 resistances are in parallel
So, R1+R2R1R2=34Ω…(ii)
From the Eq. (i), we get 6R1R2=34 R1R2=4×2 R1R2=8…(iii)
We know that R1−R2=(R1+R2)2−4R1R2 =36−4×8 R1−R2=4 R1−R2=2Ω…(iv)
From the Eqs. (i) and (iv), we get R1=4Ω,R2=2Ω
