It is due to sclerenchyma (sclereids or stone cells). The sclereids usually occur in hard parts of plant body (e.g., hard endocarp of coconut) and also in region of cortex and pith (e.g., Nymphaea). They also occur most commonly in pulp of some fruits (e.g., Pyrus).
