Cilia (shorter) & flagella (longer) are vibratile hair like narrow protoplasmic processes of many cell types. Basal body are microcylinders which is associated with the development of cilia & flagella as it is a permanent feature at the base of the cilium & flagellum. The distal end of basal body is capped by a basal plate. Its structure is similar with centriole in having nine set of triplet microtubules held together by accessory proteins. Basal body occur at right angles to each other near the nucleus, separating at cell division & organizing the spindle microtubules
