The lacrimal gland (with its ducts) is situated in the orbit on the superior lateral surface of the eyeball and secretes tear, which is composed of water, salts and bactericidal protein called lysozyme. Lysozyme (muramidase) breaks the β−1,4, glycosidic bonds between N-acetyl glucosamine and N-acetylmuramic acid in peptidoglycan thereby weekning the wall.
