Solution:

Hydrogen can gain an electron form ion with the stable noble gas configuration of helium. It can also lose its electron to give ion. Hydrogen therefore has resemblance to the halogens as well as to the alkali metals which gain or lose an electron respectively to form univalent negative and positive ions with noble gas configuration.
