Solution:
Reptiles are mostly terrestrial animals and their body is covered by dry and cornified skin, epidermal scales or scutes. Reptile epidermis (the outer layer of skin) consists of two layers. The inner stratum germinativum is the germinal layer, the cells of which divide to form new layers of skin. The outer stratum corneum is the cornified layer, consisting of a protective layer of dead, flat, horny cells filled with keratin. Snakes and lizards shed their scales as skin cast by the process called as shedding.
