Xerophyte refers to a plant which is adapted to life in a dry or physiologically dry habitat. Adaptation is achieved by the means of mechanisms to prevent loss of water or mechanisms to store the present water. Succulents are the plants that store water. Eg: Cactus and agaves have thick, fleshy stems or leaves. Cladode is a flattened organ which arises from the stem of a plant. These cladodes often replace the leaves in photosynthetic function. For example asparagus, butchers broom are typically reduced to scales.
