The fertilized mature ovule containing the embryo surrounded by layer of hard coat is generally called as seed. Seed has hard covering layers called seed coat that protect the embryo from unfavorable conditions. The seed provides lot of advantage to the angiosperm as it shows adaptive strategies for being dispersed to new region. Seed can sustain in harsh environment and maintain dormancy of the embryo. Also, seed formation is dependable as fertilization and pollination process are not dependent on water anymore.
