The neurilemma consists of tubular sheath cells or Schwann-'s cells. The function of Schwann-'s cell is to produce the myelin sheath around the neuraxis (axon of a neuron). For the formation of axon sheaths, the plasma membrane of a Schwann-'s cells extends as a double layer which gets wrapped around the axon many times. The membrane fuse forming the myelin sheath.
