Ribosomes were discovered by Palade (1955) in bean root. These are submicroscopic parricles, seen with the help of electrone microscope. They are composed of r-RNA and proteins, present in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. In eukaryotic cells these of larger sized 80S (each unit is 60S and 40S ) and in prokaryotic cells these of smaller sized 70S (each unit is 50S and 30S ).
These attached to endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells and takes' part in protein synthesis.
