The female reproductive system comprises a pair of ovaries along with a pair of oviducts, a uterus, vagina, cervix and the external genitalia, location in the pelvic region. Ovaries are primary female sex organs which produce ovum, the female gamete and several steroid hormones. The fallopian tube (oviducts) extends from the periphery of each ovary to the uterus and the part closer to the ovary, having finger-like projections is called as fimbriae while tubular part is called the infundibulum; it is connected to the uterus.
The uterus, also called the womb, has the shape of an inverted pear. It is supported by ligaments attached to the pelvic wall. It opens into the vagina through a narrow cervix. The cavity of the cervix is also called the cervical canal, which along with vagina forms the birth canal.
The female genitalia includes the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, hymen and clitoris. The vaginal opening is surrounded by the fleshy folds of the labia majora as an extension of the mons pubis. It is covered partially by a membrane called the hymen. The clitoris is a tiny finger-like structure which lies at the junction of the two labia majora above the urethral opening.
Thus, A - Cervix, B - Uterine cavity or uterus, C - Fallopian tube or uterine tube or oviduct, D - Ovary.
