$MTP$ is the termination of pregnancy before the foetus becomes viable. It is done to get rid of unwanted pregnancies. It is comparatively safe upto first trimester ($12$ weeks) of pregnancy. After the first trimester, $MTP$ becomes more risky as the foetus becomes intimately associated with the maternal tissues.
