Pollination by water is quite rare in flowering plants and it occurs only in 30 genera, mainly monocots. Air is more common amongst abiotic pollinating agent. Water hyacinth and water lily, the flowers emerges above the water surface and are pollinated by insects. In wind pollination small flowers are packed into inflorescence to make them more conspicuous. Self incompatibility is the mechanism which prevents self pollen from germinating on the stigma, thus inhibits inbreeding.
