When the pollen grains are transferred from the anther to the stigma of flower of another plant of same or different species, it is called cross pollination or allogamy. The cross pollination brought about by snails and slug is known as malacophily, eg, Diptera. The cross pollination, which takes place by birds is called ornithophily, eg, Grevillea, Bignonia etc. Anemophily is the type of cross pollination brought about by wind; eg Typha, date palm, coconut. Entomophily is the type of cross pollination brought about by insects. About 80% pollination occurs by insects, eg, Salvia, Rosa, Papaver etc.
