Fusion between the sperm and egg cell is called fertilization. During fertilization process the protoplasm between the two compatible gametes (gametes may be motile or non-motile) fuses which is called plasmogamy. Followed by plasmogamy the nuclei of both the gametes fuses together. This fusion of nuclei is called karyogamy.
