Amoebiasis or amoebic dysentery:
It is a contagious disease.
Causal agent: Entamoeba histolytica which is a protozoan of large intestine of humans. The protozoan is not present in the small intestine.
Mode of transmission: It spreads from feces of the infected person to food and food products through houseflies or cockroaches, acting as mechanical carriers.
Symptoms of amoebiasis include constipation, abdominal pain and cramps, stools with excess mucous and blood clots.
