Meiosis is the reduction division in which diploid or somatic chromosomes numbers are reduced to half. The meiosis often produces haploid gametes or individuals. Heterozygote AaBb have four types of alleles, viz. A,a,B,b controlling dominant and recessive characters. During, gametogenesis, these four alleles may combine in following four combination.
[a] The allele A may be associated with the allele B to give AB combination.
[b] The allele W may be associated with the allele b to give rise Ab combination
[c] The allele a may be associated with the allele B to give rise aB combination.
[d] The allele a may be associated with the allele b to give rise ab combination. Thus, four types of alleles are assorted independently to produce four types of gametes, viz. AB,Ab,aB,ab.
