Q.
Meiosis in $AaBb$ will produce gametes:
Jharkhand CECEJharkhand CECE 2004
Solution:
Meiosis is the reduction division in which diploid or somatic chromosomes numbers are reduced to half. The meiosis often produces haploid gametes or individuals. Heterozygote $AaBb$ have four types of alleles, viz. $A, a, B, b$ controlling dominant and recessive characters. During, gametogenesis, these four alleles may combine in following four combination.
[a] The allele $A$ may be associated with the allele $B$ to give $AB$ combination.
[b] The allele $W$ may be associated with the allele $b$ to give rise $Ab$ combination
[c] The allele a may be associated with the allele $B$ to give rise $aB$ combination.
[d] The allele a may be associated with the allele $b$ to give rise $ab$ combination. Thus, four types of alleles are assorted independently to produce four types of gametes, viz. $AB, Ab, aB, ab$.
