Megakaryocytes are present in red bone marrow. These special cell, present in bone marrow produce cell fragments, which are called platlets or thrombocytes. The later have a life span of only two or three days and are constantly being replenished by megakaryocytes. Flatlets lakl DNA synthesis ability and their number varies from per cubic milimeter of blood. Leuicocytes and erythrocytes are also produced in bone marrow but there are not formed by the fragments of grant megakaryocytes.
