Tautomerism : lt is characteristic of compounds having labile hydrogen atom. The two isomers cannot be separated. e. g., nitro compounds.
Chain isomerism : The two isomers differ in carbon skeleton.
Position isomerism : The position of functional group or substituent group or double or triple bond is different. e. g., n-propyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol. n-propyl alcoholCH3−CH2−CH2∣OHIsopropyl alcoholCH3−CH∣OHCH3
Geometrical isomerism : It is exhibited by compounds having double bond and the two groups attached to two carbon atoms are different.
