Amphibians and reptiles do not have external ear openings. Rather a tympanum represents the ear in both the classes. Mammals have external pinnae which acts a funnel for the entry of sound which reaches the tympanum inside. Birds also do not posses external ears. They have an external passage hidden under the feathers at the side of the head.
