Algae are chlorophyll containing thallophytes which may be unicellular, colonial filamentous, parenchymatous and pseudoparenchymatous. Based on thier pigments, flagellation and storage products algae are divided into three main classes : chlorophyceae, phaeophyceae and rhodophyceae. Laminaria, fucus and Dictyota are phaeophyceae (Brown alage). Porphyra and polysiphonia are Rhodophyceae (Red algae).
