Female infanticide is the main cause of decline in female population in India. In 1979 the pregnancy test was advertised. In Amritsar alone during 1979-82 roughly 78,000 foetuses were aborted. In 1989-90 more than 7000 females were recorded to have been destroyed in Bombay alone. The figure in whole country is quite alarming.
