Solution:
The flowers may be categorized as hypogynous, perigynous, and epigynous depending on the position of calyx, corolla, and androecium with respect to the ovary on the thalamus. When the ovaries are attached above the floral parts or when the gynoecium is at the highest position in a flower, it is known as superior ovary, eg: mustard and brinjal. When the ovary lies below the floral parts and the flower rises above the ovary it is known as inferior ovary, eg: in flowers of guava, cucumber, and ray florets of sunflower. When the gynoecium is in the centre and the floral parts are located on the rim of the thalamus such flowers are known as perigynous flowers and the ovary said to be half inferior or half superior ovary, eg: plum, peach, rose.
