In chromosomes, the material controlling hereditary is histones. Histone is a type of simple proteins that is usually basic and tends to form complexes with nucleic acids (eg, DNA) forming nucleosomes. Chromosomes of eukaryotes contain large quantities of histones. In general, histones tend to suppress the genetic activity of an organism, ie, histones are considered as gene repressers because there morkly DNA of a genome in a non-specific manner.
