In a purely capacitive circuit, where there is no resistance, the current i flowing through it deposits a charge dq on the capacitor in time that is dq=idt ⇒i=dtdq
Now using Kirchoff's law, if total charge deposited on the capacitor is q then Cq=E0sinωt ⇒q=CE0sinωt ⇒i=dtdq=CE0ωcosωt=i0cosωt where i0=(1/Cω)E0 = peak current ∴i=i0cosωt=i0sin(ω+2π)t
and E=E0sinωt
Hence current is leading the voltage in phase by 2π
